GLOW WITH THE PRO'S.

When you share house with a friend who was a honcho at Mecca = product addict. We’re a total sucker for packaging & product, makeup, skincare & any tips or tricks to help us lesser mortals.

So we’d love to introduce you to the super cool, super talented HMU (slang for hair & makeup) artist Tiffany Smith @tiffanysmithsmith on how she created Vi’s look, for our ‘The Green Mare’ campaign.

How did you get into the hair and make up industry? Have you always been in the industry?

I have been in the industry almost since I finished high school. I worked at Mecca Cosmetica while studying at university and loved it way more than I loved my degree haha! After doing makeup for several years I went on to doing hairdressing and then eventually combining the two.

What has been your career highlight?

Probably when I won South Australian Hairdresser of the year. All of my mentors where at the award ceremony with me and it was a really special time.

How did you create VI’s editorial hair look?

We wanted Vi’s hair to look natural and undone with lots of natural texture. I prepped Vi’s hair with Bumble & Bumble Surf Spray Foam. I sprayed it through the roots and mid lengths then blow dried it into the hair. I then used a small tong to create a wave in her hair. I alternated the direction in which I tong so that the wave was uneven and more natural looking. I then combed it out and used Evo haze powder in the top layer to create a natural frizz.

What are the key products in Vi’s make up look?

The key products I used to create this beautiful look where all from RMS. I used the lip to cheek in illusive, eye polish in lucky and the luminizer.

Product in your kit you can’t live without?

My RMS lip to cheek colours. They mould beautifully onto the skin and look so dewy.

Your best drug store make up find?

L’Oréal illuminating drops!

An item in your make up / hair kit you will always splurge on?

Brushes!! Makeup and hair brushes! You can always find drug store dupes but you can’t compensate for quality tools! You can’t go past Rae Morris or Hourglass makeup brushes or YS park hair brushes

Advice for someone wanting to get into the industry?

Find someone who will let you assist them! I always asked hairstylists or makeup artists that I admired if I could assist them. In the beginning I gave up all of my free time to assist on shoots, hair shows etc. You need to invest in your education as much as you can. The things I learnt where things I learnt from assisting or going to look and learns where invaluable. Ask as many questions as you can!

So off you go everyone. Follow all the above steps and you too can look like Vi! *cough
