About Heidi:

I’m an Architect and Interior Designer, mother of three teenagers, serial renovator, obsessive gardener and flower arranger, organiser and chief cook of long lunches and late dinners, drinks platters and afternoon teas. I’ve lived in the Adelaide Hills for the past three years slowly chipping away at a very large restoration project of our heritage house and garden, with my husband, children, and our stubborn, greedy and very good natured Labrador Bruno.

Christmas Traditions:
We’ve taken up the reins to host our families for the past ten years, alternating years for either my husband’s side, or mine. It’s always a full traditional Christmas for both - smoked salmon on blinis with champagne while unwrapping presents, turkey with gravy and roast vegetables with good South Australian wines to drink, and on-fire plum pudding with my late grandmother’s recipe for her famous fluffy custard, carried in ceremoniously to the dining room to finish. Everyone has to wear the silly paper hats in the crackers, and tell the dreadful funny jokes.

Favourite Dishes:
Buche de Noel, which I buy from Mulot’s Pâtisserie on King William Road. My late mother always bought this for the children’s end of the table for those that hadn’t yet developed a taste for plum pudding (I’m pretty sure the lucky coins hidden in the pud were designed to bribe us to eat it). I now order it for my own children, nieces and nephews, and love the kitsch little plastic gnomes and toadstools that adorn it.

Music:
Last year, we let Apple Music decide to randomly select from the Christmas music section. Mariah Carey interspersed with the King's College Choir didn’t make for natural transitions, I won’t be doing that again!

Decor/ Table top styling:
Always a white tablecloth and napkins, lots of silver, lots of greenery, hydrangeas, fir, pinecones and holly from the garden, Cabbageware plates (as it’s my largest set of china), and the pudding served on Spode Christmas tree plates that have been handed down in the family.
Ultimate dream Christmas entertaining scenario:
I’d love a white Christmas in a Chalet in a European ski resort. Going for a ski after the dinner (that I didn’t cook) in fresh powder snow would be an amazing contrast to our usual Australian Summer Christmases!
